The State of Artists HRDs in Africa

This research is focused on understanding the complex and multifaceted landscape of artistic freedom in Africa. It is designed to delve into the challenges and experiences of artists and cultural activists (artivists) in several African countries. The research  has  insights into the state of artistic freedom in Africa, the challenges faced by artivists, and the strategies they employ to navigate restrictive civic spaces.

The specific objectives of the research include:

  1. Examining the impact of political and social dynamics on artistic freedom in the studied countries.
  2. Identifying common trends and hurdles faced by artivists across different regions of Africa.
  3. Formulating recommendations for stakeholders, including international organizations, governments, and civil society, to support and safeguard artistic freedom on the continent
