Rwanda: Questionable trial after journalist’s death

86 civil society organizations and media associations have restated their call for an impartial, independent, and effective investigation into the death of Rwandan journalist, John Williams Ntwali. They have emphasized the need for a credible process to be carried out, given the swift conviction of the car driver allegedly involved in the collision with the motorcycle on which Ntwali was travelling, and the lack of transparency surrounding the investigation. On January 19, 2023, Rwanda police announced that Ntwali died in a road accident in Kigali’s Kimihurura area on January 18 at 2:50 am
