Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Summit: Final Report

From 14 to 16 November 2018, the Southern African Human Rights Defenders Summit brought together human rights defenders from different countries across Southern Africa to reflect on closing civic spaces in the region and the impact of these developments on the most at risk human rights defenders.

The summit resulted in the release of a report entitled “Reflecting on the Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Summit: Closing of Civic Spaces and its Impact on Marginalised Groups in Southern Africa”. The report includes an 18-Point Statement which calls on governments to address the major issues facing human rights defenders in the region.
