ATTEMPTED ARREST, INHUMAN AND DEGRADING TREATMENT OF JOURNALIST XAVIER MESSE, PUBLICATION DIRECTOR OF THE PRIVATE JOURNAL “LE CALAME”

The Human Rights Defenders Network in Central Africa (REDHAC), its Coalition REDHAC-Cameroon and AfricanDefenders (Pan-African Network of Human Rights Defenders) condemn with their utmost energy the attempted arrest as well as the inhuman and degrading treatment inflicted on the journalist and Director of Publication of the weekly newspaper “Le Calame” by the elements of the Mixed Commission prescribed by President Paul Biya and housed at the Secretariat of State for Defense (SED) in Yaounde in the case of the heinous assassination of the journalist Martinez Zogo, whose body was found on January 22, 2023 in the neighborhood known as “Ebogo2” in Yaounde, Cameroon.
